Three different jobs

Microwave energy heats food efficiently for reheating, defrosting and many everyday preparations. A grill element adds direct browning from above. Convection uses circulated hot air for baking and roasting. Combination appliances can use more than one method, but modes, accessories and restrictions vary. Decide whether you need rapid reheating, surface browning or true baking before comparing litre capacity.

Map your weekly use

List ten likely uses. If most are reheating rice, tea, leftovers and defrosting, microwave-only may be the simplest choice. If sandwiches and kebabs need browning, a grill combination can help. If you expect cakes, biscuits or roasted food, verify a real convection temperature range and usable tray. A long preset list does not add a heating method that the appliance lacks.

Worked family example

A household reheating several plates daily but baking only twice a year will probably gain more from a spacious turntable and simple controls than from convection. Another home without a full oven may value a combination model despite extra cost and cleaning. Our judgment is to buy the mode used weekly; occasional ambitions should not dominate the decision.

Measure dishes and ventilation

Take the widest dinner plate and tallest covered container to the measurement stage. Compare turntable diameter, usable height and door opening—not just litres. A large exterior can contain a modest cavity. Follow clearance requirements above, behind and beside the unit, especially for convection heat. Ensure the counter supports the weight and the door does not conflict with a wall.

Accessories are mode-specific

Metal racks and trays may be supplied for grill or convection operation but can be unsafe in microwave-only mode unless the manufacturer explicitly permits them. Use microwave-safe containers and follow the exact manual. Never copy accessory advice from a visually similar model. Keep vents clear and stop using a damaged door, latch or seal until professionally assessed.

Electrical and import considerations

High-power combination ovens need native voltage compatibility, a suitable grounded circuit and local service. A 120 V-only oven is generally a poor import candidate for Pakistan. Confirm input watts rather than only output microwave watts. International freight also increases damage and return difficulty. Inspect packaging and warranty geography before purchase.

Decision rule

Choose microwave-only for efficient everyday reheating, add grill for regular browning, and choose convection only when baking or roasting is a real routine. After selecting the method, compare interior measurements, control clarity, cleaning access and service support. This sequence prevents paying for impressive mode labels that never solve a household task.
