Usable area beats headline volume

Air fryers cook by moving hot air around food. A wide single layer often browns more evenly than a deep pile, so basket footprint and shape matter. Compare internal dimensions and the food you actually prepare. A nominally larger round basket may hold fewer kebabs, fish pieces or samosas in one layer than a slightly smaller rectangular basket. Treat litres or quarts as a first filter, not the final answer.

Count servings by a normal meal

Place an uncooked representative portion on a dinner plate, leaving small gaps between pieces. Estimate how many such portions fit the basket without stacking. For one or two people, a compact basket may be adequate; a family meal may require a wide basket, dual zones or two batches. Our judgment is that two predictable batches are often better than buying an oversized machine that occupies scarce counter space every day.

Worked comparison

Suppose one basket fits two chicken portions plus vegetables, while a dual-basket unit fits four portions but divides the space into narrow zones. If your meals mix foods with different times, separate zones add value. If you normally cook one wide item, the single large drawer may be more useful. Compare the exact internal tray dimensions and whether both zones can run at full power on the available circuit.

Cleaning and replacement parts

Inspect how the basket, crisper plate and grease channels come apart. Coatings should be cleaned according to the manual; damaged non-stick surfaces may require replacement. Check whether baskets and trays can be purchased in your region. Elaborate presets add little if the high-wear components cannot be replaced. Avoid abrasive tools and do not immerse electrical housings.

Electrical check for imported models

Heating appliances commonly draw high continuous power. Read the rating plate for voltage, frequency and watts before ordering. A 120 V-only model is not made compatible with Pakistan’s supply by a plug adapter. A suitable transformer can be bulky and costly, so a native 220–240 V model is usually the more practical choice. Confirm socket, earthing and circuit capacity.

Food safety and cooking results

Preset time is not proof that food is safe. Use a food thermometer where appropriate and follow reliable minimum-temperature guidance. Basket crowding, frozen thickness and voltage conditions affect time. Shake or turn food only as the recipe and appliance instructions permit. Keep the exhaust clear and leave the specified space from walls and cabinets.

Decision rule

Shortlist by native electrical compatibility, usable basket dimensions and the largest regular batch. Then compare cleaning effort, replacement parts and storage footprint. Do not pay primarily for preset count or decorative window panels. A good choice is the smallest appliance that cooks your routine meal in one acceptable batch—or two short batches you are genuinely willing to run.
